Homemade Dog Food – Do Check out the Do’s & Don’ts
How sure you are that your homemade food will meet your dog’s dietary requirements? There can be a lot of questions on this and lots of answer as well. So Lets check out some pro’s and con’s of giving your dog homemade food.
Vets generally don’t recommend making your own raw dog food or give them any human food because of the risk of bacterial contamination or possible public health risks. If your dog or any pet you have has any medical issues, consult with a vet or veterinary nutritionist to make sure the homemade diet works for your pet.
Not preparing a balanced meal:
If a balanced meal is prepared by you that are not individualized to your dog’s needs, it can come at a cost as nutrition deficiency or in excess amount can lead to diseases, such as malnutrition or obesity, and can ultimately be fatal. As per the research about 40 nutrients play an important role in the dog’s body and all the 40 of them has specific role in the dog’s body. Inadequate concentrations of these nutrients may have a bad impact on their body.
There are number of homemade dog food recipes. People often check for online recipes to prepare home made food for dogs which is very wrong, instead ask your pet doctor what kind of food can be given to them. There are many human foods which is very harmful to dog’s and the most common is onion and garlic, because it’s healthy for people doesn’t mean its healthy for your dog or any animal.
Forgetting to include essential ingredients in your dog’s meal or not considering essential ingredients which are necessary for your dog intake. Every homemade food recipe for dog will be different, and provide different vitamins and minerals, depending on the ingredients used. Keep Milk and Chapati away from your dog as they love them but its very harmful for them:
We have often seen people using milk and chapati as meal for their dog pet. Caution! Dogs are not lactose tolerant, so do not give them milk or chapati as both can lead to obesity and pancreatitis which are very very serious conditions. Rotis/Chapatis are very toxic for your dog. Chapatis are a storehouse of gluten, which is harmful to your pet.
